I've been attracted to the beauty and simplicity of Provincetown's Long Point Light from many points of view - from the breakwater, from a whale-watch boat, even from high atop a hill miles away on Wellfleet's Great Island. But I was really blown away by this view when we climbed one afternoon up through the dense forest on the opposite side of the Mid-Cape Highway and emerged atop the towering dune to look back across the top of the woods. With the lush, deep summer green of the the thick trees in the foreground, this slender tip of Cape Cod reflected the bright afternoon sun and seemed to pierce the water almost evenly - an illusion, of course, between Provincetown Harbor and Cape Cod Bay. Adding to all the color, the distant dunes of Truro and Wellfleet provided an almost-mysterious, purplish hue along the far horizon.
